CLIMATE

Australia is an all-year-round destination, but during their spring and summer, (November to March) it is warm or hot everywhere, tropical in the north and warm to hot with mild nights in the south. April to September is clear and warm with cool nights in north and central Australia: the south is generally sunny but cool with some rain. Most rain falls at the Great Barrier Reef during January and February. The ideal time to visit these areas is during Australia's winter from June to October. Melbourne and Adelaide enjoy a more temperate climate, as does Sydney.

TRADING HOURS

General retail trading hours throughout the country are Monday to Friday 0900 to 1730. Some areas offer late shopping once weekly. Most shops are open on Saturdays from 1000 to 1700 and an increasing number in urban areas are open on Sundays and many Public Holidays.

TIPPING / GRATUITIES

Tipping is appreciated in restaurants but is not obligatory. Employees in Australia do not depend on tips as part of their income.

DRIVING

Driving is on the left. A national licence or International Driving Permit is required which must be translated into English.

CLOTHING

Lightweights during summer months with warmer clothing for the winter period throughout most southern parts. Lightweight cottons and linens all year in the central / northern states with warm clothes only for cooler winter evenings and early mornings.
